Here’s the second trailer for ‘The Day of the Doctor’, the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special starring Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman, David Tennant, Billie Piper and John Hurt. The special is confirmed to air at 7:50pm on 23 November 2013 in the UK with simultaneous broadcasts around the world, both on television and in the cinema.
UPDATE: An extended trailer has now been released
There’s plenty of interesting things to see in this version. It does seem that this version of Rose is not the one from season 2. Even accounting for visible age differences, her scenes only appear to be with John Hurt’s Doctor. It also appears these episodes will explore the Time War with both Gallifrey and “the moment” mentioned which are all part of the mythology.
More recently the audience was clumsily reminded of the Time War with a book about it glimpsed in ‘Journey to the Centre of the Tardis’ so that can only have been for set up; either that or it was the worst bit of fanwankery ever seen.
So could this be a post-Donna 10th Doctor? In ‘The Next Doctor’ he thought he was meeting the 11th so presumably it’s after that. Where does that place John Hurt’s Doctor on the timeline? It would make most sense that he’s a post Eighth Doctor, but presumably he knows Rose but then what appears to be Rose might not really be Rose. At the very least, she seems to have the power of the TARDIS with her cool glowing eyes. He has a blue box TARDIS so he’s definitely not after Hartnell. That we can say for sure. Maybe.
