Here’s the latest, action-packed trailer for X-Men Apocalypse from franchise mastermind Bryan Singer. This is the first instalment since the timeline got reset during Days of Future Past meaning that all of the pieces are in play for the veteran director to play with…except we saw that the timeline turned out pretty rosy so everything will be fine. It does mean that things aren’t quite right with Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique now apparently one of the founding X-Men. She was last seen pretending to be Stryker and setting up the Weapon X programme. I wonder if anyone on the production will remember that? It also seems that these characters aren’t really ageing properly given we’re now two decades on from the events of First Class.
As well as the returning core cast of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult, many of the iconic characters from the original trilogy have been recast in their younger guises with Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Alexandra Shipp as Storm and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops. Also returning from previous instalments are Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Evan Peters as Quicksilver and Lucas Till as Havok.
X Men Apocalypse arrives in cinemas on 18 May 2016
