“This vulnerable world needs something more powerful than any of us.”
–Tony Stark, before all bad things happened
From the tone of this trailer, it appears that Marvel are preparing us for a somewhat darker Avengers movie. There isn’t a single quip…and Joss Whedon wrote this. Just as anyone who tries to make a Star Trek movie psychs themselves up by saying “Think Wrath of Khan”, it appears anyone making a pop culture part two say “Think The Empire Strike Back”. It’s a storytelling convention that following a glorious victory which helped forge our heroes, they must reach their darkest hour. It seems that hour has arrived with The Age of Ultron.
An Age sounds like a rather long time and we can probably expect a movie that spans a prolonged period like Doctor Who’s ‘Last of the Timelords’ and then at the end everything is reset, but a price has to be paid, maybe buying Jeremy Renner out of his contract. It looks like our heroes spend a lot of time fighting alone as well, and looking sad in slow motion. And when they are together, they seem to spend a lot of time punching each other. I’m sure it will all work out in the end though.
Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders and Samuel L Jackson return and are joined by Elizabeth Olsen, Andy Serkis, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Spader as Ultron. They probably call him Ron for short
Avengers: Age of Ultron is released 24 April in the UK and 1 May 2014 in the US
