The Martian: First trailer for new Ridley Scott movie

While The Martian may look like it’s a short film included on the Blu-ray extras for Interstellar, it’s actually a totally different film based on the novel by American author Andy Weir and directed by renowned filmmaker Ridley Scott. There’s always a sense of anticipation when Scott returns to the sci-fi genre but in recent years has been less than stellar. Which Ridley will turn up? Will it be the man who brought us Blade Runner and Alien, or the one who directed the confused but pretty-looking Prometheus? Also, films set on Mars, so often SUCK. Think Mission to Mars, Mars Needs Moms, John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars or John Carter. Still, there’s always Total Recall.

The good news is, the script has been written by Drew Goddard, the writer/director of Cabin in the Woods, who made his name writing Buffy the Vampire Slayer and most recently scripted the pilot for Marvel’s Daredevil Netflix show. His words are usually pretty good. Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara and Kristen Wiig star.

The Martian arrives in cinemas on 27 November 2015 in the UK and 25 November 2015 in the US
