In 2011 The Muppets reintroduced Jim Henson’s charming creations back to life with style and a great respect for the Muppet’s past. While it followed a fairly standard plot of putting on a show to save the day but it did so with enough Muppet’s quirk and fantastic songs to make it stand out. Notably absent this time around is co-writer human star of The Muppets Jason Segel having succeeded in his crusade to make the Muppets matter again with a popular and profitable movie. So comes the inevitable sequel. Behind the camera, James Bobbin returns to direct and also co-write the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller.
Muppets Most Wanted features the gang on a world tour but end up involved in a European jewel heist. It seems the new production team are following the template of the original run of Muppets movies and following their origin story with a caper film similar in tone to 1981’s The Great Muppet Caper. This time the lead human star is Ricky Gervais alongside Ty Burrell and Tina Fey.
Muppets Most Wanted is released 28 March 2014 in the UK and 21 March 2014 in the US
