Discover the untold story…
While it may not have the same high profile as the Star Trek franchise, Stargate churned 17 seasons of tipretty great mainstream sci-fi, action entertainment from 1997 onwards in the forms of Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate: Universe, as well as a couple of lovely TV movies.
And just like Star Trek, it’s back with a new series, although this one is definitely somewhat lower profiles and definitely lower budget. Those folk at MGM have decided to create a platform dedicated all things Stargate, and for a small fee, viewers can get access to every episode, the TV movies, the original feature film and some exclusive new behind the scenes features and interview segments. To top it all off, they’ve commissioned a new 10-part digital series titled Stargate: Origins. With 10-minute episodes, it looks like a TV movie that’s been split into parts but this appears that the producers are dipping their toes into the Stargate franchise to see if there is potential for a bigger launch.
That doesn’t mean they haven’t invested as this period piece as this looks suitably grand in scale with some location shooting in the Sahara desert. The show also sticks with the existing Stargate mythology and follows a young Catherine Langford (Ellie Gall) as she embarks on an untold adventure involving the gate. Existing mythology suggests Catherine, the daughter of the archaeologist who discovered the Stargate, never went off-world but this new story could reveal her unknown adventures. Connor Trinneer also stars as Professor Paul Langford. Mercedes Bryce Morgan directs a script by Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry.
Stargate: Origins begins streaming on 15 February 2018.
