Sequel News: Star Trek and Guardians of the Galaxy titles revealed

Today was a great days for people who obsess about tiny details that don’t make much difference in the grand scheme of things for some titles of movie sequels have been confirmed.

There’s a new creative team in charge of Star Trek following that disappointing and derivative Star Trek Into Darkness. A script has been hastily written by cast member Simon Pegg and Dark Blue creator Doug Jung, after Roberto Orci’s effort was unceremoniously binned by producers at Paramount. After JJ Abrams jumped ship to Star Wars, Fast & Furious franchise veteran Justin Lin was installed as director. Today he confirmed the long-standing rumour that the 50th anniversary film will be titled Star Trek Beyond and shared the first image from the set. It looks like a sleeve, although it could be a bag.

If that’s not enough in Twitter announcements, director James Gunn has been shared the title of the next Guardians of the Galaxy film. Previously artwork had shown it to simply be called Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but instead it will be called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It’s just like the cassette tape, Awesome Mix Vol. 2 which will make up much of the soundtrack of the film.

Star Trek Beyond is released in July 2016 while Guardians of the Galaxy arrives in May 2017
