It’s the brand new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (that’s never going to stop being clunky) the first Star Wars anthology film. The film follows a rag tag group of rebel mercenaries as they try to steal the plans for the Death Star in order to help take down the Empire. Unlike many other films about groups of criminals brought together to achieve a common goal (and maybe learn a little about each other in the process) these gals and guys seem a little serious – there’s no quipping at all. There isn’t even classic rock music on the trailer. How do they expect to sell the movie.
One complaint from fans about the last Star Wars film was that it played on people’s ideas of nostalgia a little too heavily. Well that won’t be a problem now with a film set in the era just before A New Hope, with at least one iconic character returning and probably lots of old sets making a reappearance. Yeah, it’s not about selling lunchboxes, it’s all about an important story that needs to be told.
Felicity Jones leads the cast which also includes Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Diego Luna and Forest Whitaker.
