There have been a lot of rumours surrounding Fantastic Four 2, and not many of them good. “Reports” suggested that director Josh Trank had destroyed sets and upset many of the crew and rather than making a film that felt like the Fantastic Four, he had used a found footage motif, just like he did in Chronicle. That could just be internet fanpeople sniping because there had been no promotional footage released, no poster, not even a little set photo. There have also been many rumours that this version of the story will massively alter the origins of Marvel’s first family. This trailer would seem to put all those fears to rest.
It’s a little portentous and this trailer is clearly influenced to some extent by Interstellar, and that makes sense since it begins with a trip into the unknown that goes wrong, just like in the comic books, although here drawing from the Ultimates rather than the original version. The end result will be that the crew of four all end up with super powers and become a rock, a fireball, stretchy and invisible. Fantastic Four is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but comes from 20th Century Fox, who also make the X-Men films pretty well. There are rumours of a shared universe but that would seem to make little sense, given how expansive that world is and four more people with powers wouldn’t be all that fantastic really. Fantastic Four stars Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm.
Fantastic Four is released 6 August 2015 in the UK and a day later in the US. Suck that America
