The first trailer for Chappie made the film look a little bit more like Short Circuit than Terminator. This second trailer for the Neill Blomkamp’s movie puts the emphasis on the action and adds Hugh Jackman with a mullet. It would be fair to say that the director who made his name with District 9 is on fairly safe ground here mixing science fiction with social commentary. This particular film features violent thugs who see newcomers, in the form of robots, taking their jobs and threatening their way of life. He’s probably making some kind of point about something but I can’t put my finger on what it might be.
Dev Patel and Sigourney Weaver also star with Sharlto Copley motion captured for the title role.
Chappie is released 6 March 2015
