Here’s the first trailer for Insurgent

Here’s a teaser trailer for Insurgent, or Insurgent: The Divergent Series to give it the full title, but really that’s pretty awkward to say. The film is a sequel to this year’s slightly surprising hit movie Divergent and is once again based on a best selling novel by Veronica Roth. We say slightly surprising because it really hit big, which might be expected for a series with an built-in fan based but for every blockbuster hit like The Hunger Games there’s many failures like The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

Insurgents takes place in a world where everyone fits into one of five factions with silly names – Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, Erudite – almost as if they all attend some kind of magical boarding school. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is a Divergent, displaying the traits of multiple factions, almost as if she’s a well rounded person and therefore shunned from society. Following the events of the first film, an ideological war is looming. From the look of this trailer, that war seems to involve floating buildings going implausibly on fire.

Robert Schwentke (The Time Traveller’s Wife) takes over directorial duties from Neil Burger who departed the franchise due to the short turnaround time. Co-starring are Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Theo James, Maggie Q and Miles Teller. Allegiant, the third novel in the series, is being split into two films as has become a strange convention with young adult trilogy adaptations, with the first part set to arrive in 2016.

Insurgent is released 20 March 2015
