Here’s your first look at Agent Carter, “an eight part television event” from Marvel. Set in the 1940s the show sees Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) reduced to admin work at the Strategic Scientific Reserve following the end of the war, so she takes on covert operations for Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) with the help of his butler Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy). The film is a spin-off from Captain America: The First Avenger and based on the success of Marvel One Shot Agent Carter.
The writers of both Captain America movies Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have penned the pilot which is directed by Louis D’Esposito. Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors the Russo brothers and helming episodes two and three.
It would be fair to say that Agents of SHIELD hasn’t quite made the impact that ABC and Marvel hoped for given the huge success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With a show more obviously tied to one of their successful film series, they have to hope it might be a bigger hit. Either way, they are hedging their bets by pretending it’s a mini-series but have no doubt if it’s a hit, it will return for another run.
Agent Carter begins on Tuesdays in January on ABC
