It’s almost as though the producers really want to convince you that this is a Harry Potter film. The score of course is the most obvious touch with John Williams’ sparkling magic used to invoke the feelings of fans raised on JK Rowling’s creation. Then there’s the font, a mention of Hogwarts, name drop Dumbledore and before you know if you have a willing audience ready to jump on board an all new expanded universe.
Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne stars as Newt Scamander alongside an array of talent including Colin Farrell, Ron Perlman, Samantha Morton, John Voight and Katherine Waterston. Fantastic Beasts is directed by four-time Potter helmer David Yates who cleansed his cinematic palate with The Legend of Tarzan before returning to the comfort of the Potterverse…are we calling it that?
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them arrives in cinemas 18 November 2016
