Doctor Who returns to screens on 19 September 2015 for 12 new adventures in times and space. The BBC have unveiled a second teaser for Peter Capaldi’s second stint in the TARDIS featuring the returning Missy (Michelle Gomez) following her apparent death in the series 8 finale. Also back in a big way are some old-school silver and blue Daleks along with the standard Nu Who bronze versions. Whatever happened to those new paradigm Daleks? Also coming back are the Zygons following their appearance in the 50th Anniversary Special, ‘The Day of The Doctor’. As is necessary in Doctor Who, there are plenty of new monsters too as well as some Vikings.
Jenna Coleman is back as Clara Oswald, making her the longest serving companion of the modern era. It seems that Clara and the Doctor will be joined for some of this series by Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams who seems to turn up in more than one era. Most excitingly of all, the roundels have returned to the TARDIS, which has been a long time coming.
Another returning element is the serial, with every story a two-parter, or at the very least connected on some way. That means there should be plenty of cliffhangers to district fans and create debate during the run of the series.
Returning writers include showrunner Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, Toby Whithouse and Jamie Mathieson alongside newcomers Sarah Dollard and Catherine Tregenna.
