There is something strangely reassuring about the way The Doctor talks to children. It’s almost as if they are more on his level. His initial encounters with young Amelia Pond are what made that relationship so special and there are hints of that again here. More than that, it establishes that Clara is a real person with a childhood, family and history rather than some weird time clone planted by some nefarious aliens.
