While the first trailer for Creed made it look quite like a standalone movie that just happened to be set in the same universe as Rocky, this one puts the focus squarely on the relationship between Michael B Jordan’s title character, Adonis Creed, and Sylvester Stallone’s Italian Stallion. While the young Creed is having trouble living up to his legacy, it seems that Rocky is having to deal with life having lost everything and everyone he ever loved, which fits rather nicely with his portrayal in Rocky Balboa.
This could prove to be the film that Rocky V failed to be, with the champion fighter unable to enter the ring and forced to train a young prospect. The big problem with that movie was that there was no big climax. This film fixes that with the young Creed having to overcome his personal demons regarding his legacy with a fight in the ring and getting back into boxing giving Rocky’s life meaning.
Creed is released in the US on 25 November 2015 and in the UK on 19 February 2015
