CLASSIC TRAILER TUESDAY STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE
While cinema has changed significantly since the 1970s, it’s easy to forget that there is also been a significant shift in marketing and this teaser trailer for Robert Wise’s 1979 film Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a perfect example.
This was a time before trailers were on the internet before they hit the big screens, before big Comic Con promotions and spoilers on every entertainment site.
So what do they give fans to entice them into theatres?
A worthy sounding voice over over fetishistic images of the newly redesigned Enterprise while the crew just stand there silently as the actors are announced.
It’s slow, it’s ponderous and fails to engage. In that respect, it’s a perfect advert for the first Trek movie.
Classic Trailer Tuesday will return next week.
