CLASSIC TRAILER TUESDAY: LABYRINTH (1986)

David Bowie’s Goblin King twirls his balls in front of the teenage Jennifer Connelly in Jim Henson’s fantasy drama. The trailer is all a bit eighties, and that’s no bad thing. Although this film employed a CGI owl in the opening titles, every creature in this film is gloriously practical. The complexity and precision of the sets and in particular the puppets is stunning and something most likely will never be seen again. If you look at the effects work here beside something like Jack The Giant Slayer there really is no comparison. It’s a shame Hollywood has lost these skills and the beauty they produced. But we are lucky to have the great legacy of Jim Henson’s films.
