The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Scotland has today announced the nominations for this year’s British Academy Scotland New Talent Awards, showcasing Scotland’s wealth of emerging talent in the moving images industries.
The annual awards ceremony recognises, inspires and celebrates emerging practitioners from all over Scotland and gives up-and-coming screen industry talent an all-important platform to showcase their work to the wider industry.
36 nominees have been selected across 12 categories by juries made up of industry professionals.
This year, the ceremony has added a new category, Production Design, which, along with the Sound Design and Entertainment categories introduced last year, takes the total number in competition to 12.
Winners from each category will then compete for the ultimate award of Best New Work, a prestigious title clinched last year by Animation winner, Hannah And The Moon.
The winners will be unveiled at a glittering awards ceremony held at The Arches, Glasgow, on Tuesday 25 March and will be hosted by author, broadcaster and journalist Muriel Gray.
Last year, Daniel Kerr became the youngest ever New Talent Award winner, taking home the Acting Performance award for his portrayal of a young Paul Ferris in The Wee Man. Garry Fraser won the Factual category for his documentary, Everybody’s Child.
Jude MacLaverty, Director of BAFTA Scotland, said: “BAFTA Scotland is dedicated to nurturing emerging talent in Scotland and we’re very excited by the incredible quality of entrants to the Scotland New Talent Awards this year. There’s no shortage of talent in Scotland today and we look forward to unveiling the winners later this month.”
