It’s finally here. It’s the first trailer for the fourth Avengers film, now known as Avengers: Endgame. While most of you will probably be saying: ‘Hey, wasn’t that the name of the final episode of Star Trek: Voyager?’. Of course, you’re right but it’s more likely their evoking the fourth Highlander movie which united the continuities of both the films and popular TV show.
Or maybe it’s a reference to the dialogue in previous Avengers movies. In Age of Ultron, Tony talks about the potential threats from up above:
“We’re the Avengers. We can bust arms dealers all the livelong day, but that up there… that’s the endgame.”
That’s right kids, he used a word that is now in a title. And of course who can forget Doctor Strange’s wonderful line before he turned to dust.
“We’re in the endgame now. There was no other way”
Anyway, so it seems that the film picks up not long after the last one ended with Thanos having won and wiped out half of all life. Bummer. Tony is stuck in deep space having lost his travelling companions to the snap and the remaining Avengers are all on Earth, sad and bereft that they’ve lost everyone they loved. Thor has even resorted to wearing a tracksuit. Captain America has a plan though and the camera lingers on Peggy Carter a little bit too long. Are time travel shenanigans afoot? But really, there’s no way he wouldn’t have a picture of Bucky in his compass. Or his heart.
In other news, Hawkeye is it back, or should it be Clint Barton’s alter-alter ego of Ronin. It seems his family were lost in the snap which makes him a man with nothing to lose. And his wife was so supportive of his Avenging too.
And hey, look everyone, it’s Scott Lang, you know Ant-Man and he’s escaped from the quantum realm having been trapped there at the end of his last solo movie with all his friends dusted.
There’s no sign of Captain Marvel though. But there will be. There will be.
